Senior year is going faster than I expected. Deadlines are approaching for colleges and scholarships. Applying for colleges is a very hard decision because the applications have a fee of normally $55, so you have to choose wisely. Not knowing if you will get accepted into your dream college is nerve racking. So far, I have applied to CSU Bakersfield, CSU Fresno, and CSU Long Beach. I’ve chose these schools because I have found that they are great schools to attend and I wish to stay close to home.
My family has been very supportive this year. They understand that senior year is the most stressful year of high school with all the deadlines, college relative stuff, and making sure that I am on pace to graduate. They have supported me whenever, possible whether it's emotionally or financially. My sister graduated about 4 years ago from Lindsay High School and now she gives me advice about high school. She told me, “Take every advantage you get during high school, especially senior year. Join clubs, go to sports games, make new friends, and never procrastinate.” Her advice has helped me a lot this year both socially and academically. I’m using her advice because I know she was in my place not so long ago and she wants me to do better than she did.
The senior project is a big part of our senior year; its many projects that we do during our four years of high school put all together on our websites we create. I have actually enjoyed working on this project. It has helped me stay organized. Doing the life map, for the senior project, had me reminiscing on these past three years and got me thinking about the future. I hope I get to complish the goals I put on the life map such as becoming a registered nurse and starting a family of my own. We also had to job shadow someone in the profession we are interested in. Since I wasn’t able to job shadow a registered nurse, due to privacy concerns with the patients, I job shadowed my 4th grade teacher. After doing the job shadow, I got inspired to become a teacher. However, I still want to follow a career to become a registered nurse; therefore, I would want to work as a registered nurse for a while and then go back to college to become a school nurse.
As its getting closer to the end of the first semester, every senior is feeling the pressure more and more to turn in all their work on time in order to pass the courses needed to stay on pace to graduate. I am doing good in all my classes except algebra 2. Most of the work is easy, but I just find it hard to manage keeping up with homework for all 7 of my classes, plus the homework I have for my Nursing Assistant Training Program(NATP) that I have after school. I have been staying after school to get help for classes I need more help in so I won’t fall behind.
Even though I have work that needs to be done, I try to enjoy my senior year as much as I could, but keeping up with my work still, of course. I have been getting involved in school this year more than any other year. I actually enjoy participating in school activities; I only wish I had done this since my freshmen year.
