My Inspiration
Our surroundings influence us in many ways. My mom and older sister have helped me achieve my goals. We have been through a lot which has brought us closer as a family. My mom inspires me to be the best I can be and become successful. She raised my older sister, younger brother and myself as a single mom for the majority of our lives. Seeing my mom struggle increased my strive to go to college. She taught me that one must never give up no matter how hard it gets. Attending college is of great importance to me not only because I want to make my family proud, but also because I want to invest in something that will benefit me in the future and increase my opportunities of obtaining a good career.
My sister, currently working as a medical assistant, influenced me to enter the medical field. She has been a role model for me since we were little. Seeing her become successful as a nurse inspired me to follow in her footsteps. When it's time for me to enter college, I know I can ask her for help on homework and even when I need to study for a test. She attended UEI for a 8 month program to become a medical assistant; therefore she advised me to attend Fresno State because they help you obtain a good job after you graduate and she wants me to have more opportunities. Entering the world of medicine is now a dream of mine. I want to be able to give back to my community and help the world become a healthier place.
I am currently attending Lindsay High School. Here, they require you to take a 3 year course pathway in order to graduate. I chose the medical pathway. My sophomore year I took a course called exploring health careers where you learn about different types of careers that are offered in the medical field. Junior year I had a choice of choosing physiology or psychology as my second course for my pathway. I picked physiology because I wanted to go in depth in learning more about the human body. The last course needed for the medical pathway is the CNA training program. In this class they teach you what is needed to know in order to become a certified nursing assistant(CNA). The course is divided up into two semesters. First semester consists of going to a class off campus where the class is taught by a registered nurse. She teaches us the safety procedures and the responsibilities of a CNA.
I am glad to have the family I was blessed with. We’re not a perfect family, we argue sometimes like any other family, but I know they will always be there for me. They always motivate and inspire me to get into a good college and obtain a career that I am interested in. With the education and skills taught to me at school, and my family’s support and help, I know I can achieve my goal of becoming a registered nurse. If I would become a registered nurse, I could help make a difference in a person's life. Improving a person's health will lead to being one step closer to a healthier world.
