Every year when winter comes around, students get excited about winter break. Those three weeks filled with family time, gifts, road trips, and delicious food. It gives us time to just relax and enjoy life and also use that time to get caught up in our classes. I enjoyed my winter break, even though I didn’t get to travel any where. I liked that I could sleep in, not having to get up early for school. The thing I enjoyed the most was getting together with my family on Christmas Eve and waiting for the clock to strike 12 o’clock midnight to open our presents. Seeing everyone’s face light up when unwrapping each present warmed my heart. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was shopping for everyone’s presents. The stores were chaotic filled with people shopping for their loved ones. It has very hard to find parking and the checkout lines were like a mile long.
For New Year's Eve, all my family gathered at my uncle’s house. For dinner, we ate posole, tamales, buňuelos, and champurrado. After dinner, we all played games, laughing and enjoying each others company. We stayed up till 12 o’clock. When the clock hit 12, we ate the traditional 12 grapes, which represent the 12 months of the year, making a wish with every grape we ate. We ended up staying the night. I’m thankful for another year. I’ve lost some friends and gained some. I’ve came across obstacles, but I have managed to overcome them and not let them stop me from achieving my goals. I can’t believe 2016 is finally here. To the students of class of 2016, THIS IS OUR YEAR! We graduate in a couple of months. I’m beginning to realize that this was our last winter break that we, are going to get.
It's nerve racking to think that we have three more weeks till the semester is over. Over winter break, I did my best to make some time and catch up on the classes I was a little behind in. I am close to finishing my classes for the semester. I’m glad I finished the majority of my work at home because now I don’t have to stress about having to all that work in a limited amount of time.
During winter break, I received a letter in the mail from Fresno State stating my acceptance into the university. I’ve also been accepted to CSU Bakersfield. I’m still waiting to hear on CSU Long Beach and CSU Sacramento. Deciding where to attend this fall is a difficult decision. I have to choose what I think is best for me not only education wise but also financially. I’m really looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life. I can’t lie, I am a bit scared to go on my own and be more independent, but I will make the best of it. In the long run, I know going to college will benefit me in many ways.
